Katie Rincavage
- About Me
My name is Katie Rincavage and I work in general surgery under Providence Health in Everett, WA. My first position was in trauma/acute care surgery with surgical residents at Bridgeport Hospital, which is a level 2 trauma center in Bridgeport, CT, USA. I graduated from Bay Path University’s Physician Assistant Program in May, 2019 (located near Springfield, MA, USA). In my free time I like to travel, try new cuisines, swim and scuba dive and spend time doing activities with friends. I enjoy hiking, bowling, art shows, yoga, concerts and attending sports games. I am recently interested in pottery and creating things with my hands.
In the future, I am looking to take courses in wilderness medicine and disaster preparedness and response.
- Global Health Experience
My first global health experience was in July 2018 when I traveled to Ghana with public health students from the University of Massachusetts Public Health/Global Health Certificate Program. While there, I learned about their medical system and health care personnel. I even met and learned from a physician assistant in the Wa West District while seeing some patients with him. Over the two weeks, I was able to observe and assist with public health programming that was happening at the time. I attended and participated in focus groups on family planning and malaria prevention.
In March of 2020 I had the opportunity to travel to Uganda and Rwanda where I worked with a team to help interview clinical officers in different healthcare settings. We were trying to gain an understanding of their practice and impact in their countries. After traveling overland through Uganda, we visited Rwanda where we attended the 2nd annual Global Association for Clinical Officers and Physician Assistants (GACOPA) medical conference. I would recommend future GACOPA conferences to anyone who wishes to learn about and participate in international organization of this outstanding career.
I am looking forward to future global health experiences.
