Spotlight On Catherine McCurdy – Highlighting the Accomplishments of our Members

    by
I am a family practice physician assistant with nearly 30 years experience working in the community health center environment, providing care to the underserved of Colorado. Like many providers involved in international medicine, I had a personal experience of a profound nature that created the desire and opportunity to work outside the comfort of my job. In 2004 I was disabled by a back injury and during my recovery I promised to fulfill my dream of working in a developing Latin American country. By chance I read about The Carolina Honduras Health Foundation and in...

    Packing for Disaster Deployment

    by
The key to packing for any disaster response is the “go bag”. The basic concept is that you have a pre-packed bag which includes essentials you would need for a response to any environment. Items such as: toiletries sunscreen personal medical equipment (stethoscope, oto-ophthalmosccope, trauma shears) headlamp and extra batteries. Will be the same wherever you go. The only variables will be the climate in the area you are going to and the degree of independence from others you will experience. Background As a lifelong hiker and backpacker I have a shelf in my basement...
