PAGH – 2013 Student Scholarship Winners

The fundamental mission of PAGH is to support PAs and PA students who are actively engaged in the improvement of access and care in health professional shortage areas worldwide. One of the ways we do this is by providing both fellow and student scholarships which PAGH hopes will enable our members to continue their pursuit of global health. This year at the AAPA conference in Washington DC, we awarded four student scholarships which will help our student members achieve their global goals! A Student’s View: Puerto Plata Province, The Dominican Republic

    by
House calls are not just a thing of the past. This is just one of the things I learned from my month in the Puerto Plata province of the Dominican Republic (DR) this spring during my global health clinical rotation. It rained daily the first week as we walked in the muddy dirt streets on the way to the villages to see patients, and I vividly remember some of the sights that we passed. A dead dog on the side of the road one morning. Half-naked children playing in the mud. A woman walking with a massive bowl of peanuts balanced precariously on...

Physian Assistant Student’s View: Medical Mission Trips Abroad

    by
I signed up for PA school knowing I would love the profession but not realizing how drastically it would change my life. My first night in Honduras, I was informed that I would have my own clinic and see my own patients. I was allowed to diagnose and prescribe without a preceptor. I felt very nervous, what if I miss something? What if I diagnose the wrong thing? I woke up...
